Has there ever been a more hated face of a sports entertainment company than John Cena?
No offense to John Cena fans everywhere, but when the announcers had to pretend the fans were cheering for Cena like they did in TLC no less than three days ago, you know something is wrong.
But no, I'm not here to ask about Cena. I'm not a hater and not attempting to be one. I'm curious about his problem. Has there ever been a more hated number 1 guy in a sports entertainment company than Cena? It can be from other promotions. I'd like to hear about it.

No, he only seems that way because the WWE is so big and seen by so many people every week. Bob Backlund toward the end of his reign when he was WWF World Champ was booed more than Cena is. Fans hated the boring goody-two-shoes no-personality "Howdy Doody" Backlund. But at the time, the WWF was just a regional northeast territory. They didn't have even a national TV show much less shows seen around the world every week.
But if the WWF had a national and global TV show back then, Backlund would be hated by just about everybody and booed out of every building. If the WWF had had a global TV show in those days, the phenomenon known as "X-pac heat" (meaning fans hate the wrestler no matter what he does or says, no matter what his gimmick is, or whether he's face or heel; they just want him gone) would be called instead "Backlund heat". Vince Junior knew there was no way in hell he could "take over the world" with Bob Backlund as WWF Champ. So the first thing he did after he took over was to get the WWF Title off of Backlund and on to somebody the fans wanted to see. Hulk Hogan.

I would say that Cena is probably the most hated face of a company, ever. Though I can imagine that Kevin Nash in WCW and Hulk Hogan are both fairly close on the list, especially Hogan.
Lots of people say hating Cena is a trend, but that's not entirely true. A lot of Cena hating fans dislike him for good reason. The fact that he's "shoved down our throats", his lack of wrestling skills, his whole Superman gimmick, and a lot more. I WILL admit he's gotten a bit better in the ring of late, but not really that much.
I used to be a Cena fan, big time. Then I became a hater. The final straw for me was when he returned from injury and got an automatic World title shot against Jericho without winning a contendership match and won the title the night he returned. I hated on him for a while, but now I just don't like him. I don't HATE him but don't like him, either. Hopefully other Cena fans will wise up and realize he's not all that great, and move on to something else.
He's by far not the worst guy in WWE, though. That goes to Randy Orton, by far. I don't want him to just go heel like with Cena. I want to see him released.

John Cena is a hated face because fans get the feeling he's being shoved down our throats (similar to how they are pushing Ryback).
Cena began to grow stale going into 2010. With the setup for a perfect heel turn in motion and a great feud that could have refreshed his gimmick, the WWE chose not to take it. By 2011, Cena's never give up gimmick would have run it's phase and Cena has completely became stale, but due to The Rock's presence, Cena was able to keep the gimmick going. Now, Cena is practically gimmickless. His in-ring skill is low and he really doesn't have any charisma anymore. Despite this, Cena is not the most hated face of a company.
I believe Hulk Hogan holds the title for worst face of a company, and I am not only going to talk about his WWF days, but his TNA run as well. Hulk Hogan instantly made himself the face once his buddy Eric Bischoff got in Dixie Carter's ear. Once Hogan gained power of the company, it was basically WCW Part II. Luckily, Sting and Kevin Nash learned from their mistakes and didn't buy into the entire setup, and eventually Ric Flair turned on Hogan. Sometime last year, Hogan came to his senses and stopped acting as this artificial hollywood hogan-esque monstrosity. Now, Hogan still trying to stay at the top, is trying to give his daughter a push in a stupid affair storyline. Given this, and all the many instances Hogan lost his fans respect (admitted to taking Steroid in the 90s without McMahon's involvement, The sex tape, the many lies he's spread about wrestlers, etc...), Hulk Hogan is easily the most hated face of a company.

Not that I'm aware of
But I'd wager there were plenty of people circa 1992 who were no longer 'Hulkamaniacs'... its Just that the lack of a modern Internet limited the forums upon which Fans could gather...w/o a meeting place to discuss how bad Hogan was, it was too easy for people no longer into it to go "oh well' and go along with what Vince was selling, simply because they didn't Know others felt that way
I think there were also a good number of guys in WCW/JCP in the late 80s early 90s whom they tried to Push as the "next Ric Flair" or as Heir apparent to Magnum TA whom the Fans rejected
and you can't discount the Hate fans had for Ric Flair himself, as he was the Top Heel, But the Face of the Company as Champion, in an era when keyfabe was Scripture...his Book has more than a few tales of Fearing for his Life in some arenas

he is, but he shouldn't be. This guy does what all wrestlers have to do. Who else would make a better champion? The one reason alot of ppl hate him is because he does things like make movies, do songs, make fun of his opponents, and "win matches that he really shouldn't". I think he's a great champ; think of other champs who have done what he has. The Rock made corny songs, and movies, and was the best wrestler on the mic, but he is still loved by all. Stone Cold has always gone against the odds and come out on top. But he also made a movie, wrote wierd coutry songs, and even joined the alliance in 2001, but he is still loved. John Cena deserves it all, except for the hate. Look at previous champs like Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar. Sure they were good and ppl liked them. But both ran out of the WWE for TNA (Angle) and a rookie NFL contract (Lesnar). John Cena has beat the best and never done anything to upset the fans. He beat Edge in Toronto in TLC, he beat Shawn Micheals on his stage of Wrestlemania, He beat the Undefeated Umaga. He is a great champ, but shouldn't be hated.

Well back in 1986 and early 87, the WWE brought in The Honky Tonk Man, and tried everything they could to push him as a face, but yet he kept getting booed out of the building, and thus they would totally cheer for whatever heel he was wrestling. So then WWE only had two choices: get rid of him or turn him heel, and obviously they went with the ladder

LeBron James is the face of the NBA and alot of people hate him for NO GOOD REASON much like Cena.
Im not a 'hater' of anyone or any of these blokes because they are very succesfull they followed what they love, they work very hard and they deserve to be where they are.
These 'haters' are just immature and need to give credit where credit is due

hating cena has just became a trend..............at TLC if you watch closely enough cena was wrestling technically well, he was countering ziggler's moves but still the crowd was chanting "you can't wrestle"..............he has a total of 16 moves in his arsenal from his early days................not 5 for all those hypocrites who don't know!!!!
if you watch cena's matches from 2002 till now you will observe in every match he uses atleast one new move.........yes at the end he uses 5 moves of doom but before that he is actually a subtle technician!!!!!
its just that people are not happy with their ******* lifes and blame it on cena since he has got everything and cena haters are just losers!!!!
BTW punk also gets a lot of boos before that when cena faced edge during 2007 for wwe champ he too was booed a lot.............before MITB 2011 everything was in favour of cena its just that the writers screwed his image!!!
