What is a '98 Ford Ranger worth?

I just bought a rust-free '98 Ranger XLT Supercab, 160,000 miles, 4.0 with automatic and the usual options. We were planning on getting a truck and I was only interested in Rangers and Dakotas (and I'm a GM guy!). I wasn't finding ANY Rangers in our area, then this one showed up. The price was reduced from $2800 to $2500. My wife said to offer $2000, which I did. Then I went to $2300, and he sold it to me for $2400. Come to find out, I was only supposed to get it if he agreed to 2000. I checked Kelly Blue Book, and our truck should have gone for around $4300. I'm happy with the deal, but she keeps after me about paying too much for a truck with 160,000 miles (gonna break down all the time, you know). She can't wait to run around in HER new truck, though!

Is KBB pretty accurate about what you can expect to pay?

I took a quick look in www.nada.com in the consumer section under autos nada guides is similar to kelley blue book and has a lot more going for it than kbb if you ask me in addition to newer models nada guide also does classic cars and boats and motor cycles and travel trailers and fifth wheels and stuff so you cant go wrong there. I found clean dealer trade in was around 2,600 so you hit the price I always go for wnen buying used cars and the retail price is closer to 4.600 so overall I would say you made a good buy and did a good deal lets hope the truck continues to run fore ever and get the hob done. I guess its fair to say you did a good job and got the truck at a fair price all things considered. might want to show your wife how to figure out the price on nada guide and kelley blue book so she knows what the deal is next time around .

2400 is a great deal, if its 4x4. i just sold my 94 ranger 4 cyl no air, needed a little work for 1400 cash to a couple of beaner landscapers, which i was happy with. your wife seems to think she's some kind of expert in the subject!
