That's really easy homework just divide them.

    1.5 x 10^11

    -------------

    3 x 10^8

    Now 10^11 / 10^8 = 10^(11-8) = 10^3 = 1000

    1.5/3 = 0.5

    0.5 x 10^3 = 5 x 10^2 = 500

    So that's 500 seconds.

    It's that simple.

If you want to be cleaver divide by 60 and give the answer as 8 1/3 minutes.

Actually Zack that information is correct to 2 sig figs:

    1 AU = 149.60×10^6 km which is roughly 1.5 x 10^8 km.

You mean to tell us that you can not do a simple math problem like this! The sun is ninety three million miles from earth, and light travels at a hundred and ninety three million miles per second. Just use simple division to get the answer. It's a shame that there are people on the net that can not do simple math problems. The answer is, it takes the light from the sun to reach the earth 480 seconds, you use math to find out how many minutes are in 480seconds.

    quick answer: 1.5 x 10^11m / 3x10^8m/s is about equal to 500 seconds or 8 minutes 20 seconds.

    Longer answer

we are given to values one with units in meters, the other in units of meters per second (m/s). Lets ask how we can get the units to cancel out to obtain just seconds?

Well when we divide the two together we get this: m / (m/s)

here the meters cancel out leaving us with 1 / (1 /s) which leaves us with seconds. So we see that by dividing the value with just meters (the distance) by the value with meters/second (speed of light) we are left with a value of seconds so this is how the units look and how they cancel:

meters ........................................ meters * seconds ... which redues to just seconds

———— this can be rewritten as ———— ————

    (meters ) .......................................... 1 ......... meters

    (————)

    (seconds )

the periods are only place holders to line up everything properly

    t= d/v

    1.5*10^11/3*10^8 = 500s

also its not 1.5*10^11 meters lol i dont know who gave you that
