Can astrology be explained scientifically as planets and stars giving off electromagnetic fields....?

...that have an effect on us? If so, how are aspects the most important part of astrology? Wouldn't it be that the Sun, Moon and the closest planets and stars have the most effect on us? Anyway, I just want to know how you see astrology and how you rationalise it :)

.

.

.

I was just thinking that stars and planets omit these invisible Electromagnetic fields can affect human behaviour, emotions and the environment.. Solar storms on the sun cos black outs on earth, the moon has an effect one tides and our blood etc stuff like that.

I heard of an experiment where the researcher changed the electromagnetic field in a room and the participants who stayed in the room ended doing poorly on cognitive tests. Some even burst into tears.

I know that some people believe astrology is more to do with spiritual vibrations but what if auras and vibrations could be explained by science its just that way they haven't discovered how the universe works yet? idk these are just my thoughts. What do you think?

Update:

@Lady Wawa -Yep. that's a great point. I've wondered that too. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that those characteristics came from monitoring peoples behavioral patterns over time and finding some conntection or something like that :) but who knows. Where ever there is mystery there is room for doubt ^^

Update 2:

Aaaaaaahhhhh so many typos >______< my bad!

Update 3:

***I didn't thumbs down anyone. this is a very interesting discussion thanks for sharing your opinion :)

Thanks to Bree for letting me in, temporarily. So I'll keep it short. The way I look at it, first you show that it works, then you find out how. No one commits on what the physics of astrology are. So to speculate is futile.

About Lady W's point, color could be the simple reason. Humans are pattern seeking creatures. Red has to be associated with Mars. Venus is the third brightest object in the sky and like the Moon has beauty. Not much to wonder why both are feminine.

Edit:@ Viva: The obvious eludes you. No one knew there were rings before the telescope was invented. Saturn is the most beautiful planet and the furthest away to the naked eye. If the ancients knew, they may have named it different.

I would have a difficult time "explaining" astrology by any scientific means, as it is more of a personal belief system than a theory that makes predictions. However, astrological predictions based upon the position of moon and stars at the time of birth and subsequently throughout one's life, could then have some invitation of credence. Given that massive bodies affect the space time curvature, all incident EM fields would be "lensed" through these gravitational pertubations. Thus, the EM fields incident upon all the body/spirit on the other side of the lens would have changed, albeit infinitesimally. As gravity is an inverse cube strength "field" with respect to distance, the moon easily overpowers all other heavenly bodies in effect. Since the moon also has a gravitational field in much closer proximity to Earth, the Electromagentic lensing effect also overpowers the tiny effect of distant stars. Sol, our sun, is also without question, the most important body in terms of EM fields. Trying to scientifically explain Astrology as either the residual gravitational effect or by virtue of the EM fields of the planets and stars is not possible due to the enormous distance between Earth and those sources, especially as compared to the Moon.

To chain: so every one has headed home for Christmas and they put you in charge of YA horoscope ? Really, because Moon and Venus were bright and beautiful, that's why they are chosen tro be feminine planets ? Explain why Saturn with its magnificent ring and probably is the most beautiful planet in the solar system was chosen up to be a masculine planet then ?

To Killer: no good astrologer would use the argument of ' because she's on the cusp, that's why '. You know a thing or two about straw man argument yeah ? Please look it up. Writing the entire page about planetary receptors and ligands is gonna make your explanation any smarter really. Please read up more in scientific journals and articles, text books are fine too.

As to answer Bree's Q: there might be some force emitting by the planets but like Markab said, the planets then are supposed to emit their force and affect everyone equally, then why is everyone different ? One is very lunar and the other decidedly Martian. Astrolpgy might perhaps never be able t be explained by science, at least by the scientific methods we use these days anyway.

humans have biofields, all animals, everything with living cells is a subject to bioelectromagnetism. read about that and magnetobiology and quantum mechanics too. when you became a professor of microbiology and quantum physics and human anatomy and when you discover why the heck we use only a little part of our brains and where's our subconscious mind located and what we do with it exactly, you will know the answer too.

your brain shaping up in your mother's womb and electrowhatevers and subatomic particles raining from all directions. what's the effect of that stuff? nothing? now, i can't believe that. i don't know if planets affect us as astrology suggests but universe definitely should affect us, planets in solar system the more, moon even more, sun much much more than everything.

electromagnetic field around you is blue and your brain made 10.000 more neurons.... will they kinda act different, maybe they will be more conductive compared to 10.000 other neurons created in a red electromagnetic field? (red and blue doesn't mean anything, one is less charged then other or lower frequency or whatever, just that) maybe they will be more resistant somehow... and then when your brain takes its final shape and completed and outta your mom, is that why you cry harder and louder than that baby born at the same second with you but his mother's biofield was more relaxing in a way?

it's easy to speculate and near impossible to say if that's true. that's why i don't believe astrology and believe it at the same time. just like schrödinger's cat both dead and alive.

I've had a physicist who's also an astronomer tell me the electromagnetic fields of computers are affecting us more than those given off by the planets. I am not an expert and therefore do not know if this is true or not.

I believe in the 'as above so below' principle (Chain, there are axioms in every science and those are taken for granted, sort of 'believed in' and people do not need to prove them, all science is founded on beliefs or axioms).

I've spoken to two mathematicians about that and they pointed to the theory (?) of fractals. One of them asked me how came I did not see the mathematics behind what I was claiming. I had no idea what fractals were and still largely don't except they represent a repetitive pattern that keeps multiplying. Exactly what I believe to be the structure of the universe. A bigger model multiplicated at lower levels hence what's in the sky is also in our immediate day-to-day lives.

I printed the other's birth chart and gave it to him. After some time he said astrology is pure mathematics (not as in 'pure' versus 'applied' but that it's all based on mathematics). He was very happy about it because he claimed the whole world can be explained mathematically and that there is nothing which did not contain mathematics in it (music, art, etc. inclusive).

An electromagnetic field is a physical field produced by moving electrically charged objects. It affects the behavior of charged objects in the vicinity of the field. The electromagnetic field extends indefinitely throughout space and describes the electromagnetic interaction. It is one of the four fundamental forces of nature (the others are gravitation, the weak interaction, and the strong interaction). So yes, it could be, but there are higher effective way to explain/

There was an astrologer in the 1930s or so, L. Edward Johndro who tried to make an electromagnetic connection and in his mind anyway, he thought he did. Even if he was right, not too many seemed to have noticed.

I'm not an electrical engineer or an astrophysicist, but I really can't see how electromagnetism can explain astrology. In your example, we might be able to conclude it is electromagnetic influence that caused them to do poorly (not an impossible hypothesis) but they all had different birth charts. How could the electricity effect everyone the same or put another way how can electromagnetic impulses from a planet affect everyone differently? I can't see it.

Prior to any understanding of electricity, astrology was explained with the idea that everyone and everything is connected. Therefore the positions of the planets are connected to all of us and can be used for divination. That is an overly simplistic explanation of a more sophisticated philosophy. It is the scientists that insist that astrology be explained scientifically on their terms not on astrology's terms thereby guaranteeing astrology's failure - in their eyes anyway.

Gauquelin found a statistical link with planetary placement and choice of professions, but what is more interesting and a little disturbing, is that Gauquelin used the mundane positions of the planets - not the zodiacal positions. Use of mundane positions in astrology goes back to at least the 17th century, but it is a bit of a head scratcher to astrologers. Gauquelin calculated the angles in the usual way, but he paid no attention to the signs the planets occupied. To my knowledge he never bothered with aspects mundane or zodiacal.

So I don't have much faith in the idea that astrology is going to be shown to work by electromagnetism or any other material connection - but who knows?

Its not the electromagnetic fields of the stars and other planets that affect us but their gravitational pull on our own magnetosphere. The gravitational pull from the centre of the galaxy causes a series of standing waves in our magnetosphere which combined divides it into 12 segments. Which segment you are born in represents your rising sign. The gravitational pull of the Sun activates the segment that lies between its centre and the Earth's centre and this is our Sun sign. Likewise the gravitational pull of the Moon activates that segment between its centre and the Earth's centre and this is our moon sign. the other planets likewise but because their gravitational pulls are weaker their affect is less.

The Earth rotates within our magnetosphere and this is why the Rising sign changes so quickly. However, the position of the sun relative to the Earth changes more slowly thus a Sun sign lasts 30 days. More than one segment can be in activation at one time. This is why people have several signs in their chart.

Genes are changed at birth through a mild magnetic field created in te DNA molecule at birth resonating with the vibrating magnetic field of the Earth.Which genes are altered and how is determined by which segments are activated at birth. The magnetic field in each DNA molecule last only seconds as it is started by the birth process but dies quickly. This is why birth time is critical in astrology.

Source(s): 60 different faces of the zodiac where a complete 60 page scientific explanation is given in that books 20 th chapter. This is I believe the only thorough and completely sensible explanation of how astrological traits are induced at birth.
  • I used to think horoscopes were accurate, but then I noticed they fit everyone. I learned how to do charts, and there might be truth in those. I stopped doing charts when I saw how people use astrology to hate on other people. Wasn't fun anymore, burned me out on astrology.

Interesting thoughts... I've been wondering about this as well. I think what really puts me off guard its the actual effect of the planets, like how did the combination of the roman mythology and the planets matches well to the characteristic we are influenced by.

Since you and all your friends thumbed it down, I thought I'd post it here.... AGAIN :P

You should read before thumbing down again. You might learn a thing or two.

    >>>>>

Not yet. But you do know that stars do emit strange radiations and stuff, right? So far, the best astronomers have been able to do is guess what those signals mean.

The universe is just far too big and stars are way too far for science to be able to accurately understand them so far.

But astrology, even if the effects of these radiations can be measured, there's a really slim chance it will fit with the fictitious astrological characteristics that have been defined over the years. We know that gravitational pull from a full moon causes high tides, and the blood pressure of all beings to increase. This makes sense from a logical point of view. However, if you're aries or pisces supposedly, then the planet mars can't choose you send electromagnetic signals to only aries people, or Neptune to only pisces people., because we aren't born with those receptors that will catch only those signals.

Can you imagine, if there was a little antenna on my dick to catch signals from my taurus mars, and a little taurus receptor antenna in my heart to receive my taurus venus signals.

    -----------

As to why astrology makes so much sense to people is because they adapt themselves to it. I'll tell you the story of a pisces/ aquarius cusp girl I knew once. She used to go by aquarius and say things like how humanitarian, independent and emotionally aloof she is as an aquarius. And she seemed like one by all means cuz that's how she acted. Then one day we figured out together that Feburary 19th is the day when pisces begins, so out of fun, I started teasing her and called her pisces, neptune, fishy (fish- the symbol of pisces) and within a few weeks she became this entirely different person, very selfless and emotional, and elegant, and passive and reserved just like a pisces is expected to be. I'm guessing she started reading the characteristics and believing the pisces sun of hers. A few years later, we were checking the charts and stuff of people and we put in her chart... this time with the exact time of birth which happens to be 4 am, the chart came out with an aquarius sun. NO LONGER PISCES. Now she's probably going to go back to being independent and emotionally aloof and humanitarian and aggressive once again.

Now I know what all the astrologers are gonna say, that she's on the cusp so she has characteristics of BOTH signs. How convenient! Except, remember that her personality CHANGED based on her belief of which sign she was at a particular time. And aquarius and pisces are quite different in characterstics. One is supposed to be a passive, introverted, humble, fashionable sign and the other is supposed to be off the chart aggressive, extroverted, sign with a unique style and strange sense of style.
