Is this too many pets?
Right now my sister is visiting. We haven't seen each other in over a year. She lives in Montana and I live in Texas, so we don't get to see each other a lot. We sort of switch off coming to each other's houses, so she hasn't seen mine in about 2 years. We always spend Christmas together, so that is when I see her. Usually we come to each other's houses for our birthdays, but her cow went into labor right before my birthday and she couldn't fly here.
I live right by a lake in Texas. When the water level is high, my backyard is half land half water. Usually, though, it is mostly land. My house has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, and the total number of rooms in all is 19. My house has two stories (no basement) and is pretty big.
Anyways, my sister is visiting and she said "Wow, you have A LOT of pets". I guess I do have a lot of pets, but I never really thought about it until now. Most of them are rescues, and all of them have a story of how they came to live with me. Here they are.
Lucky. Dog. Black Lab.- Lucky was a rescue. He was my first pet. I got him because I work at home mostly (probably only leave the house 5 hours a week. Only one of them probably for work) and I knew I could spend the right amount of time with him. I found him as a puppy, he was perfect and I knew I had to have him. He was dumped with the rest of his litter on the side of the road, found by someone, and taken to the shelter.
Scalene- Cat- Calico Persian. Scalene was a stray that I took to the vet and brought inside the house as summer began to turn to fall and winter. I didn't want her to get cold outside. When I took her to get essential shots and spayed, they told me she was pregnant. A few months later she gave birth to 6 kittens. I gave four away to friends and kept two, Miss. Peaches and Bandit.
Miss. Peaches- Kitten- Calico Persian. Miss. Peaches is the baby of my stray, Scalene.
Bandit- Kitten- Long haired black cat. Bandit is the male baby of my stray, Scalene.
Missy- Budgie- Aqua colored. Missy is my budgie. I got her and I keep her by my desk where I work. She is very sweet and chirps all day. The only thing she has learned to say so far (it actually might be a he, she's still to little to tell) is "Kennel up, Dusty!" she says it over and over. Dusty is my other dog (see below).
Dusty- mutt- Looks like a mini australian shephard, I guess. Dusty is a stray that used to sleep on my front porch under the cover when it rained. She is very sweet and I decided to take her to the vet and bring her inside just about a month ago.
Fish- 50 gallon, two 20 gallons, 10 gallon, and 5.5 gallon. This is a lot of fish, I don't even really know how many. I use the fifty gallon to raise goldfish fry for my pond.
Spy- snake- corn snake- Not really much to say. He just moves around his 50 gallon. I got him from a friend who couldn't take care of him anymore.
I guess I have 7 real pets, plus A LOT of fish. Is this too many animals? What's your opinion? All of them are rescues, I have never gotten a pet from a breeder. Please be honest and tell me what you think. All of them like each other. The cats aren't allowed near the bird, and the dogs don't really seem to care.
Thanks for reading and answering (I know, it's really long). My sister loves animals (for god's sake, she has a farm!!), but she seems to think I have WAY too many.
I just can't imagine getting rid of any of my animals! I love them all so much, but if most people think it's a problem... I just don't want them to be unhappy, whether they leave or stay!!
BTW I am taking proper care of them!! I do all my work from home and properly take care of them. They are all happy!!

I don't think that is a lot at all. I live out in the country and hardly have to leave the house as I homeschool. This is my list of animals.
Kaido- 2 years 10 months old German Shepherd/Great Dane mix that I adopted from a lady that was about to throw her in the pound when she was 12 weeks old because "she was too much of a burden". I took her to the veterinarian when she was 8 months old and got her vaccines and had her spayed. She is my beloved sweet heart.
Rex- 13 month old German Shepherd/Saint Bernard/Collie/Anatolian Shepherd mix that I adopted from a family that didn't want him because "they had a too little house" when he was 7 months old. He already was neutered and had his vaccines and papers to prove it and I have to get both of my dogs rabies vaccines in January when they expire.
(Dr) Pepper- 4-5 year old Domestic Shorthair cat that I adopted from the Humane Society about 2 years ago. We adopted him because they said they were going to put him to sleep because he's black and no one wants "a black cat" which I thought was sad as he is the absolute SWEETEST cat I have EVER had. He is neutered and microchipped too.
Cherrio- 2 year old Agouti Gerbil that we adopted for my little brothers birthday. He is the sweetest chubbiest thing and I love him so much!
Doofus- 8 month old Rooster that was supposed to be a laying hen and turned out being a male. He is the boss of the yard and guards it and his 47 hens.
All my animals are VERY well loved and cared for and I think that the more animals, the better!!

I don't think that is too many pets at all.3 are in some sort of cage anyhow out of 7 which only leaves 4 that actually get roam of the house. You say they all like each other which is great and you seem like you're very responsible with them and their needs. Remember that animals are completely fine in any environment as long as they have an owner to love them like you do! I wish there were more kind-hearted people like you in the world! Well done =)

That does sound like a lot of pets, but as long as each and every one of them is getting their needs met, are living well, and the home is safe and sanitary, it's not too many.
A person could have 100 pets and it wouldn't be too many as long as the home was clean, they had enough money to provide food, veterinary care and have enough time to devote to the needs of the animals.
Then there are people who have 2-3 pets and in their case, there are too many!
What I'm saying is, it isn't about the number of animals, its about the quality of life of those animals.

For me, short. you see, hair like jared leto's seem too effortless and sometimes even slimy. Shortcuts are more fun to enjoy with and some sttles look better on them.

If you can properly care for every animal you have...then no! Too many pets is when you have so many that you can't give them all the attention and care they need. Which is clearly not going on here. If it ever DOES become a problem though, please do the right thing and rehome them!

I have a dog, three cats. 8 betta's, and 6 platy fish, a goldfish, and two dwarf frogs. It doesn't matter how many you have, as long as you have the ability to care for them properly. :)

For me, if there is more then I can count on one hand it's to many for me. However, as long as all of them are properly cared for, there should be no problem. There are probably shelters that would take worse care of all of them.

As long as your taking care of them your fine. Then its not alot of pets( it is but your responcable to handle it)
