Is there really a need for people to have cars with large V 8 Motors?

They are so dangerous on the roads. For safety sake and to cut down on deaths on the highways shouldn't motor size be limited to say four cylinders? And only the Police should have powerful V 8's?After all why does the average person need one?

Update:

This was a sample anti vehicle posting. In jest perhaps. I have a V 8 GMC Pickup, A V6 Chevy Blazer, And a Mazda 3. People are killed every day on the Highways,Speeders,Failure to obey basic street signs,Drunk Drivers. Some one hitting the gas instead of the brake? How soon will the Federal government step in and pass some restrictive laws to protect us from ourselves. Look forward to using public transportation folks.Once the Government takes away one basic right, more are sure to follow.

Lots of small business people, farmers, recreational enthusiasts, etc. rely on V-8 engines for the towing/hauling capacity. There is absolutely no way you could haul what we/they do with a four cylinder.

And for the record- bad, unsafe, and incredibly IGNORANT drivers come in assorted vehicles of all shapes and sizes. Was passed by a Prius just yesterday easily doing 90.....

Lol you are so nieve. To really think that v8 cars/trucks drive recklessly and 4 cylinders don't just seem like you're someone stuck with a slow little 4 cylinder and hate people who drive faster than you. Go do some research, more 4 cylinders and v6 cars are involved in accidents than v8's. Most v8 engine owners know their car, know their power, and don't put peddle to the metal. And even if someone has a 4 cylinder, guess you never heard of turbochargers or superchargers which are extremely popular to add power to those cars

Heres a question to ask yourself before you go posting stupid *** questions like this.

YES, there is a need for many reason. There world would be where it is without V8 trucks. You think a ******* 4 cylinder truck would haul something? I don't think so..

The dodge VIPER has a V10 engine in it...

ALSO, there are 500 Horsepower 4 CYLINDER cars around. and 1000 Horsepower V6, which is way more than your average 300HP V8..

SO IT REALLY doesn't matter what size engine you have?

Engines don't kill people.. DUMB *** PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE.

People can drive recklessly and speed even in cars with a 4 cylinder engine. V8 engines aren't a bad idea because of their performance, but rather because of their lower efficiency - they don't get good gas mileage compared to a smaller engine. Because of that it's actually becoming more difficult to find cars with V8 engines; these days the biggest engine you can get with most cars is a V6, but even those are starting to disappear.

i need a V8 to pull out of my college parking lot. the speed limit is 30 on the street the driveway goes to and everyone goes 50-60 mph. its like crossing interstate 93 in massachusetts during 5 o'clock traffic just to pull into the parking lot.

I never realized that people didnt have accidents and die in 4 cylinder cars.

Its not a matter of need. Its a matter of wanting something, it being available in a free market, and purchasing it.

For that matter, the average person doesn't NEED anything but food, clothing and shelter. Everything else is a luxury.

So you tell me - who decides what a person needs and doesnt?

Im surprised your not complaining about Trucks and SUVs. "After all why does the average person need one?" They may not need one but they want one end of discussion.
