Does the creature type have to be word for word to activate? (MTG)?
Say I try to cast gravecrawler from the grave yard (it's effect allows me to if I control a zombie) can I if I control a dreg mangler who is a zombie plant or does the creature's title have to say just zombie?

No, dreg mangler counts both as a zombie and a plant not a zombie plant so you can play a gravecrawler from your graveyard with a dreg mangler in play.

A creature is all of its types. "Plant Zombie" isn't a creature type - it's two separate ones, "Plant" and "Zombie". Since Dreg Mangler is a Zombie, it counts for Gravecrawler. It doesn't matter what other types it has - if at least one of those types is "Zombie", then it counts.

In the case of Gravecrawler, all it looks for is a creature with a Zombie type. Any other types are not important.
Now in the case of something like Immerwolf, it does care, when it's a Human Werewolf, the creature can transform. When it's just a Werewolf, then it can't.

A creature is all types listed in the creature line on the card. A zombie plant is a zombie and a plant.
