Where to go in Yoyogi park?
Hi, I am going to Japan at the end of the month, and I am staying in Tokyo. I really want to see cosplayers/ underground music fans etc-- and I've heard it's common for people to hang out in Yoyogi park.
Looking at google maps-- the park is much larger than I anticipated-- and for people who have lived in/ visited Japan-- I'm wondering what specific segments of the park may tend to have more concentrations of cosplayers etc?
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you! :)

Yoyogi Park in Shibuya-ku draws all sorts of talent, from horn players to hip-hop dancers to rockabilly gangs, complete with poodle skirts and Elvis-inspired pompadours, who usually gather by the park's east side entrance on Sundays to jam to American pop music from the '50s.
Gothic Lolitas , Cosplay kids, costumed fans of Japanese manga and anime characters hang out on the Harajuku bridge.
Yoyogi Park has a mellower side that's also worth exploring — areas to the north and west, past the fountain pond and central field. There's a cycling center northwest of the central field that rents bikes, including tandems, for just a few hundred yen and a snack hut with tables that sells ice cream and beer. There is also a little dog run, so you're bound to see at least a few terriers decked out in rhinestones and denim or chihuahuas dressed like cheerleaders.
Yoyogi Park is open from dawn to dusk. Admission is free. Take the JR Yamanote line to Harajuku, Omotesando exit, or the Chiyoda line to Yoyogi-koen, exit 4.

What is now Yoyogi Park was the site of the first successful powered aircraft flight in Japan, on December 19, 1910, by Captain Yoshitoshi Tokugawa, after which it became an army parade ground. During the post World War II Allied occupation of Japan, it was the site of the Washington Heights residence for U.S. officers.
It was later the site for the main Olympic athletes village of the 1964 Summer Olympics and the distinctive Yoyogi National Gymnasium which hosted swimming, diving, and basketball .
Yoyogi Park was turned into a city park in 1967.

Go to Omotesando Exit of Harajuku station (Yamanote Line).
You can see cosplayers or lolitas in crowds.
On the way from there to Yoyogi Park, there is a small bridge "Harajuku bridge". This is the capital of Cosplayers in Japan.

Cosplaying is not so popular as it was before.
So you can't see cosplayers in Yoyogi Park now.

Are you extreme? i'm no longer able to truly advise you camp in Yoyogi park. it is not Yellowstone after all. you would be hassled by utilising anybody from hentai who circulate to the park for nozoki; to the persons who get watched by utilising hentai, to bossy homeless dudes who will call for hire or which you drink with them, the interior sight chonankai/dissimilar busybodies, punk youngsters, to no longer point out the police. If money is tight a sauna is a solid place to crash, they have a room the place you are able to sleep. i'm no longer able to propose hitchhiking the two, yet you will possibly desire to good fortune out and get a trucker who runs you..say from Fukuoka to Kansai etc. and then hands you off to a colleague who's extreme balling it to Tokyo in one day. The independant truckers are those maximum possibly to %. up hitchhikers and one in each of those guy could get on his instantaneous along with his pals and organize onward connections for you. it is not like the constrained-get right of entry to highway is the scenic course. you will see an incredible sort of the interior tunnels and roadside pissoirs and that i wish you do no longer ideas 2d hand smoke. A rail bypass is a lot greater suitable concept IMHO. anyhow, do no longer permit me inform you a thank you to spend your trip. I do only no longer think of Yoyogi is the terrific place to "camp" interior the Tokyo section if that's what you insist on doing. you do no longer might desire to circulate that far out of city to locate an acutal campground-Chichibu might desire to do.
