Didn't Americans vote for keeping the government in this lock horned battle over taxes and spending?

It seems to me that's what voters wanted.

No compromise

No bi-partisanship

No clear choice between the two parties.

Or... is there another explanation for them keeping the status quo?

    Technically the house should be dem controlled. More people voted for Dem congressman but because of redistricting republicans remained in control.

    So Americans already voted for Obamas and dems fiscal policy...
