Dungeons and Dragons, Getting started ?
Me and a few of my friends were thinking about getting into playing D and D, We were wondering What we would need to get started just to play you'r everyday basic game. And how much this is probably gonna set us back, And normally how many people do you need to play. It's me plus 3 of my other friends so 4 well probably go play with more people at our local game store once we get into more.
Also whats the most recent set ? or edition or version on something ?

The most recent edition is 4th edition, which is great for newby, but more experience player find it dull. There is a pack with the player book, master book (useful only if you never been gamemaster) and monster book. Those 3 books can be bought for around 25$ each, plus the dices (maybe 5$ per player) and I strongly recommend a big paper pad to do the fight with some mini to represent the players (use coin for the monsters). I also recommend you buy a scenario for your first game.
The best number is 1 game master and 4 players but you can live with 3 players.
I strongly recommend you go to your local game store (there is at least one in each big city) to find all that stuff and they will direct you to the right stuff for you.
