They're no where near being aligned.
Look at this current map of the solar system, the planets are all over the place. There's no alignment and you've been lied to.

The planets each orbit the Sun at different distances, and they each take different amounts of time to do this. So a year on Earth takes 365.25 Earth days, but Mars takes the length of 687 Earth days to orbit the Sun, Jupiter takes 12 Earth years, and Pluto around 250 Earth years.
A planetary alignment, as seen from Earth, occurs when, by coincidence, a number of planets are in approximately the same position in the sky.
The planets are not going to line up this month. Look up and you can see various planets, but not all at the same time, as they are in different parts of the sky. Clearly, then, they are not going to suddenly move around so they are all lined up. Jupiter isn't going to show a sudden noticeable shift!
Even if that all did happen, it would not cause anything to happen on Earth. Apart from the Sun, the body with the greatest effect on the Earth is the Moon, and what does it do?
It causes the tides.
That's all.
You don't think that is going to result in the end of the world, do you?
People who have been claiming this will happen are either
A) misinformed
B) misunderstanding what they read, or
C) deliberately scaremongering in order to sell their books which repeat this garbage.
The closest thing to a galactic alignment last occurred back in 1998. Did you notice it? No. Noticed anything remarkable taking place in the sky? Planets wandering off course? The Sun looking larger than usual? Pink comets? No.
That shows you how much effect these events have on us.
Source(s): Have some fun reading about previous predictions of the end of the world - all of which have totally failed to come true. http://www.abhota.info/end1.htm NASA has produced a video for everyone to watch on December 22 :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3o9udHJZxk I have a page on my website at http://www.spaceflight-uk.com/ Follow the link under "The end of the end of the world"! - PaulLv 78 years ago
The planets DON'T line up today at any time today.
You should also be more clear about what you mean by lining up - conjunction or visual alignment or what? How many planets are you talking about? If you mean all of the planets in perfect alignment then the answer is that will never happen. If you don't mean all of the planets you need to be more specific about what you mean.

Given that Jupiter passed opposition on Dec 2, getting the planets to line up is going to require altering some orbits rather significantly, and indeed... doing away with orbital physics as we know it.

The planet will not all line up at all. Not today, not this year, and not this century.

You have been fooled by your ignorance.
You could check any "real" space site on the web to see that there is no alignment. It was made up as part of the end of world scenario.
Get a life.

Congratulations, your name will posted tomorrow with all the others who betray gullible scientific illiteracy. This list will be available for public ridicule and humiliation
