In addition to Raymond's excellent recommendations (I have all of them - except Levine): Vernon Handley and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; Sir Adrian Boult's final recording of 'The Planets', with the London Philharmonic (1979); Herbert von Karajan (Berlin or Vienna - both are very good); Richard Hickox and the London Symphony Orchestra; Sir Malcolm Sargent & BBC Symphony Orchestra. I have a few more, but can't find the wretched things!

Recordings to avoid: Previn (his EMI recording - haven't heard the Telarc version) and Rattle - very dull, in my opinion.

Sir Adrian Boult's 1967 version (out of five) recorded for HMV with NPO & Ambrosian Singers is to my mind and *very own taste* one of the best Planets ever recorded.

Then again there's Steinberg and the Boston Symphony on DG (perhaps a tad too heavy on reverb - still, a reference recording), Dutoit and OSM on Decca (naturally), Levine and Chicago SO (naturally, bis :-) )...

    Best,

    Raymond

I would certainly second Dutoit & the OSM.
