Fictionpress stories vs published stories?

The technical aspects of writing aside, has anyone else noticed a big difference between the kinds of stories you find on sites like fictionpress and the kinds of stories you see in books on the shelves? Why does this gap exist? Do you think it's because they're being weeded out?

Update:

Sorry, all I heard was "snark snark snark". There's a reason why I said technical aspects aside. Fair enough if you don't agree with what I said, but mention it. If you're not going to give a serious answer then just don't answer at all.

Update 2:

In case you missed it: my question is about subject matter/content, not execution.

It's because those evil agents and editors have these things called standards. They actually expect books to be interesting, well-written, original and worth money. Fictionpress doesn't care if you post gibberish.
