How much Advil, Tylenol, or Aleve will kill you?
How much Advil, Tylenol &/or Aleve will kill you.
I seem to hear alot of misconseptions of just how much is too much. Some say 14 pills of Tylenol will kill you others will tell you only 6. I seem to think it would be higher than 14. It seems 14 will damage your liver & stomic.
Since these are the 3 most popular over the counter medications/pain releavers i want to know exactly how much will kill. Not leave you with internal damage but really kill you.
I'm plaining to be a paramedic when i graduate in a 1 1/2. I've applied to a local first responder cadet program, so this info is stictly out of curiosty & reserch. I am in no way planing to hurt myself or anyone eles. I just want to make that point clear.

You do not have to take that much before you damage your liver. Depending upon the damage to your liver and how long or if you get a transplant will also determine your existence.
Too many Paramedics are under educated to this and will laugh at someone who attempted suicide and refuse transport. By the time the patient does receive help it is too late since immediate treatment was not done. It is difficult to look at someone who has ingested these meds to determine how toxic they are.
Learn dosages. There are different strengths for each of these meds. So, to say 14 of a minimal dose tab might be less then 7 of a higher dose tablet. If the person already has liver disfunction of other diseases or age, it will not take much at all to do serious harm.
Never take an over dose of these meds or any med as a joke. There are also more problems than just the medical side which need addressing for which a Paramedic is NOT qualified to do or even to judge someone.

The term you need to google is "LD50"
That stands for Lethal Dose for 50% of the population.
For Tylenol it's 338mg/kg
So if a person weighs 220 pounds (100kg), 33.8g would have a 50/50 chance of killing him.
In the same article, it says that liver damage has been seen at 6g (six 1000 mg pills)

You have to take so many of each of those meds that you pretty much have to be trying to kill yourself before they will kill you. You wont accidentally OD on any of them. In most cases, you will get sick and puke before ingesting enough to kill you.
