how to clean retainers very well?? please help!!?

hey guys! so today a couple hours ago i went to tacobell and i realized about 3 hours later that i didnt have them in my mouth so i went to tacobell and they let me look through their trash and i found my retainers. they werent at the bottom but they were a little in the middle, closer to the top. but it was still pretty dirty. what should i do to clean it really well so that its safe enough to put back in my mouth? i was going to disinfect it with rubbing alcohol but i thought that the alcohol would ruin my retainers. thank you!!

Update:

@Rebecca Gray: mine arent like invisalign. and i didnt eat with them . i accidentally threw them away alone with my napkin. but thanks anyway.

Do not use denture cleaner on your retainer. It will turn your retainer yellow if you do it all the time. Brushing your retainer will put microscopic scratches in it, which will harbor more bacteria.

You should clean your retainer every single night to avoid plaque buildup and bacteria which will make it smell bad. The best product to use is a retainer cleaner meant for this purpose, such as Retainer Brite, SonicBrite, DentaSoak, or Cleanse Freshen Go. These products all kill the germs that make your retainer smell, and they also prevent white plaque buildup. You can find them online at stores like http://www.dentakit.com/

if your retainers are like mine where they like those invisaligns just brush them thouroghly with ur toothbrush and toothpaste. idk what the other ones are like, i guess you clean them the same way.i thought you werent supposed to eat with your retainers on.
