What would stop people from smuggling guns into the US from Mexico?
If the US made it almost impossible to buy guns would in really change anything? Also why does the District of Columbia have the highest murder rates in the nation when neighboring Virginia isn't even in the top 10? Also its almost hard to own guns in Maryland witch also neighbors D.C. and their neighbors aren't even in the top 10.
Also the border patrol doesn't really do a good job keeping drugs out what would make the gov. think they could keep guns out?

No it wouldnt change anything since crazy people who go around killing others would just do thier killing some other way. In Canada 2 out of 3 homes have guns yet they dont have any problem with killings. Now about the border patrol part I agree with you about them not stopping the drugs from coming into the U.S. but the thing is is that any gun that is in Mexico sure isnt going to come back to the U.S. . All the guns that are in Mexico come from the U.S. illegally since it is illegal to own a gun in Mexico unless you can get permission to own one from the military which is almost impossible unless you live out in the country and can prove you need a gun for hunting or you have lots of cash and are someone important. There are no such things as gun stores in Mexico either. Nothing anyone does is going to stop crazy people from doing crazy things unless they do mental exams on everyone to see whos crazy or not and capable of killing innocent people.

OK, let's take a vacation from reality for a while and believe that the 2nd amendment would be overturned.
Which scenario makes more sense.
1) Organized crime begins to import guns from a country that has highly restrictive gun control laws, for all practical purposes eliminating private ownership of firearms.
OR
2) A lot of out of work American machinists (formerly employed by firearms manufacturers) start producing firearms in small production facilities (each about the size of a single car garage or truck trailer combination). These firearms would be produced to the same quality standards as the forearms produced by the formerly regulated gun manufacturers ... but there would be differences in the sales end of the transaction. No more serial numbers (government imposed the regulation, now that government forcibly shut down the legal industry ... why bother!). Full auto? What the heck ... might as well go for it, production of any firearm is illegal ... why not "go for the gold"? Waiting periods, background checks ... what the heck for? Just sell to anyone ... even kids! You got the cash ... we got the guns.
Importing from another country? That would be like ... Bringing marijuana into Amsterdam.

It's very severe! It's definitely now not the difficulty of legislation enforcement. They don't seem to be able(educated or geared up) for this type of action. It has moved squarely into the realm of military Response. The Mexicans are acquireing army weapons from south of their border. And they are using these weapons in the struggle they began. That is now not a police challenge. Mexico has advised us to not expand our police and navy presence on OUR aspect of the border, while at the same time Mexico has accelerated their military presence on their side. No assistance must receive to Mexico. Our border wants to be strengthened by contrast very obvious invasion. The continued Mexican army incursions along our southern border can not be labeled 'inadvertant'. They quantity to acts of battle.
