Hydrogen burns...then goes where?

For instance the Hindenburg was a hydrogen ship. The hydrogen caught on fire until it was all "used up". What happened to the hydrogen. I don't think it was all converted into energy because it would have to be a hot flame to convert all the mass into energy. So what happens after the flammable gas burns?

    First things first - atoms are never converted into energy. The hydrogen never dissapears into a ball of photons or whatever you were thinking. Energy is given out when bonds are made and taken in when they are broken. In the equation:

    2H2 + O2 ---> 2H2O

    3 bonds are broken: H-H, H-H, O-O

    and 4 bonds are made: H-O-H, H-O-H

    Consequently, there is more energy given out than taken in, and the reaction is exothermic, giving out heat energy.Thus, the H-H bond breaks and the hydrogen bonds to oxygen in the atmosphere to make water vapour.

    2H + O2 ---> H2O is wrong as you dont get hydrogen going around on its own, it is always pretty much bonded to another hydrogen in a covalent bond as H-H.

    The hydrogen in the Hindenburg did what all hydrogen does when it burns with the oxygen in the atmosphere - it produced water - which was in the vapour phase because of the high temperature,

    The equation is:

    2H2(g) + O2(g) → 2H2O(g)

    H2 bonds with O2 and becomes water H2O, H2 + O2 = 2H2O

    2H + O -> H2O

    In words, one atom of oxygen combines with two atoms of hydrogen to produce energy and water vapor.
