Should I turn off my amp?
Its not for guitars or anything just a basic amp running in a stereo configuration and I was wondering if I should turn it off or leave it on

Some amplifiers must be turned off, especially Class A and vacuum tube designs. Class A/B amplifiers can be left on with out issues, but they still draw a significant amount of current, so not efficient to be left on. So generally yes amplifiers should be turned off.
Now source components, cd players, dvd players etc. can certainly be left on, and technically its a good idea as it is easier on the internal components, and they do sound better in higher quality systems when left on. Some solid state preamplifier's as well.
