Don't you hate it when you get cornered by an old person and they just start talking endlessly?

No, I like to listen to them. They're usually very interesting people, and if they haven't spoken to someone much over time it would be nice to have someone to converse with.

In some situations, yes (like if I'm trying to study for a test on the bus/in the library or at work - you know, when someone calls), in other situations, no. I also don't mind stories ("I remember in 1957, when..." - it's actually quite interesting), but I do get not exactly annoyed but frustrated when the "conversation" (note the quotes) is of the form "my life is so horrible. I had to go the Social Security Office because they screwed up my payment, and my arthritis was acting up, and then my dog died, and then I was run over by a car, and then I burned the roast..." (in other words, complaining and only complaining).
