Strange computer noise?
I bought a new HP computer and everything runs fine... however, I noticed that it has been making this strange noise. Im not sure if it's the harddrive but it sounds comparable to the noise a disk makes when it stops spinning.
Everything works fine, Im just a little concerned. it doesn't necessarily sound bad, but no noise emitting from a computer is good, especially one that just started.
thanks a lot.

it's quite probable you have "green" hard drives which power themselves off when they are not being used. so it's probably just as you say. if not, check your power settings in the windows control panel, by default most windows installations are set to power off the hard drives after 30 minutes.

The noise sounds whether this is a fan. The fan having subject concerns isn't clearing the warmth remote from the processor. while the processor heats up it is going to run slower, and if it gets too warm it is going to easily overheat and the laptop will close down till this is cool sufficient to run lower back. a sparkling fan could be have been given in Radioshack for approximately $5-$10 and put in in a couple of minutes. yet another rapid restoration is to place a drop or 2 of olive oil into the fan to be certain if that forestalls the noise, this is a rapid restoration yet could get rid of a few of your fears.
