A piece of my permanent retainer broke, but not off?

I have a permanent retainer wire thingy on the back of my bottom teeth, and just now I noticed a part of it broke. It is still attached but I can feel it poking against my tongue. I want to set up an Orthodontist appointment to fix it but my question is, is it possible that the entire thing will come off and I could swallow it, like when I'm sleeping?

Thanks!

No if only a small part popped off the entire thing wont fall off unless you seriously wiggle it for long periods of time. It should be fine until your appointment. My retainer has become lose a few times.

EDIT: Put some wax on it if it's annoying you :)
