Should I be a music major?

I've taken 6 years of private guitar, and vocals lessons. I play drums, piano, guitar, and bass. I took 4 music theory classes and I'm now in AP music theory ( collage class). I also have worked in live sound, music production, and guitar repairs for 3 years and have many fine arts credits. I am currently in a band that is about to release a debt album ( currently in studio) we play between 3-6 shows a month some pay and some not. I want to major in music but don't want to be a school teacher. I want to be a private lessons teacher, maybe work in a store/ do repairs, and a musician. This is what I really want to do. I would love to get up and teach guitar, work on guitars, and play at venues on weekends. The only thing in the back of my head is the money. Do you think if I get my degree in music i will have enough money to make it in society?

get a useful degree, one that will get you a job that is in high demand, forget that cap that people say about pursuing something you love, it's all about making a living.

I at the moment am a music significant, and definite it really is annoying. fantastically a lot all the best suggestion has been given, be prepared for competiton, music theory, and so on... yet i replaced into speaking about decision of significant in a kind of mine the different day, because i'm at the moment a music Ed significant, yet i'm thoroughly torn between music Ed and performance for a occupation, and someone advised me a basically right device to apply to discern out if some thing is ideal for you. in case you could locate your self putting up through all the aggravating, not-so-exciting aspects of a significant, because you want it that badly, then it really is the occupation/significant for you, in spite of the indisputable fact that, of you in common words cant see your self taking a music theory type, or being competitve in any respect, then possibly music should be only a interest for you, it really remains large. i really favor that you artwork out what you want to do

Choose a major that will get you somewhere. Majoring in something useful (finance for example) doesn't mean you have to give up music. A music major is useless. Did all the artists you listen to major in music? Did the local guitar shop owner major in music (maybe idk), but you don't need to major in music to make it happen)

Have you ever heard the term "starving artist"? Not to mention, add student loan repayment and day to day bills?
