Just bought ps3 but its not showing up on screen?

all I used was the original cables that came with it and tryed settings on my regular nothin fancy flat screen tv but nothing is showing on screen, ive tryed holding the power button on the ps3 which did nothing, I have the controler hooked up to it its still doing nothing. my dvd player works fine, but when I plug my ps3 into it the same way as the dvd player and go to the video chanel ir shows nothing. I dont understand whats wrong, is it messed up? Am I gonna have to get it replaced? does it need internet? Ive even tryed pluging it into my dvd player its still not showing anything. Is there a seperate disk I have to buy or something? What do I do? I followed the instruction booklet!

Make sure everything is plugged in correctly, to the right slots. Replug everything. Also make sure the channel is the correct channel to display the PS3, it may not necessarily be the same channel as the DVD player. If that still does not work, try buying a new AV/HDMI cable as the problem may lie with the cables.

when your ps3 is off but getting power (red light) hold down power button till you hear a second beep. Switches over rom rca cords from hdmi input settings in the ps3. Either that or your system is ******. Worth a shot.

If you bought it used you may have to switch it from HDMI to the color plugs or vice-versa (google it if it's true) if you have color plugs make sure they are matching in colors, and check what input they are on and go to that input on your tv.
