Do Colombian men have any hygiene problems?

I met a Colombian man who lives in my complex. He was introduced by a neighbor for I needed some help putting furniture together. It took over 4 hrs for 2 nights. The second night he finished the work rather quickly. A great movie was on so I extended an invite to watch the rest of it. When the movie ended, he politely went home but not before asking me out. Neither of us drink which is a total bonus. He is up at dawn and works all the time. This I know only because he didn't realize how late it was the first night which was all work once we got to know each other. Besides his trade, he is rather well known around here for helping anyone, (men and women). People love him. Never complains and soooo polite. He seemed quite nervous the first night but we were laughing so hard, (he speaks and reads English so as to get better at it, while I am practicing my Spanish for a job). We sat rather close on my loveseat for it's quite difficult to see the TV when sitting on the other couch. Nice apt., but I think the developer was on something when he created this place. So, it was like sitting next to a good friend. We were sitting close due to the size of the loveseat. In all honesty, if I was in that position with a man from the USA, there would have been some moves made. He was a perfect gentleman. He's very close to receiving his citizenship. His entire family is in Columbia. Talks a lot about his parents. We are going out on NYE. That's the history of us so far. I must say, (not to sound bold or anything) I have never let anything slide with any boyfriends I have had. It's always been my house/apartment, my furniture etc. I have commitment issues. I've been an independent, single mom, (she's in college now) for so long. Sorry for babbling. The second night when we watched the movie, I didn't notice anything until he got up to leave. Albeit he came straight from work, the body odor was intense. I still smelled it a bit the next day. I'd run for the hills if this is common thing with any man, not just Colombians? As for the control issues and all...Would never happen. I dumped an Italian man for being like that. As for abuse, OMG they would be incarcerated faster than they could blink. Even just a raise of the hand or disrespect. So, does anyone have any knowledge about their hygiene? Thank You

I can't imagine that any white man could discern you were Colombian. Even if you were draped in the Colombian flag I doubt anyone would figure it out. They couldn't tell a Colombian from a Panamanian. Now the gold jewelry thing, that's probably different. Folks figure you're saying through all that, "Hey look at me, I've got money that I can spend on stuff for no other reason than to get attention."

Hi, I am a little late to answer this question, but I am Colombian, live in UK and you seem to have come across with a nice guy, most of them are like that, not all tho!

In Colombia we are kind of obsessed with cleaning and hygiene, but some people, men especially, get a bit nasty after work and I must say Colombian men are not as vain as Americans or English are. In fact they are a bit messy, so Colombian women tend to be the ones that keep telling them to get change or take a shower or tidy up, etc, etc

Colombian men are like kids. They are very polite, sweet, helpful, happy some are hard working (some lazy) but mostly messy and love to be spoilt by their partners.

    Hope this helps ;)

Hey there! I am Colombian too. Being hygienic is part of our culture, also being polite and not abusive. You cannot generalise. He works all day long and it can be pretty stressing, and sometimes the deo runs out, you know? But, no. Having such a strong body odor is looked down upon in this country, and whoever is like that is instantly isolated. That is not common in here.
