Using a Gift Card for the android App store?

I just got a Galaxy Tablet 10.1 and I had also received a gift card (Vanilla Visa) and I though i could use the money on it to buy apps, well trying to buy apps it tells me to add a payment method and it wont accept the gift card since there technically isnt any "Card Holder" name on it. I look around and I went on vanillavisa.com to activate the gift card which i have no idea what that did but it didnt help, then i tried using google wallet and when signing up for google wallet in the google account i have on the tablet, so i put all the info i can from the gift card but for some reason it still had no effect on me being able to buy apps with my gift card. To Shorten this can someone thoroughly explain the process i need to do to have the android market on my galaxy tablet accept my Vanilla Visa gift card as a payment method?
