How to play movies (.mvks) and such on a ps3?

Im debating buying a ps3 bc of its bluray player and such, I heard you can play mkv files do you have to move them to your ps3 via usb cable or can you attach an external harddrive to the ps3 and play them on the ps3 from there? can you sync up your computer wirelessly or with a wire to your ps3? thanks a lot!

You can download a program called PS3 Media server on your computer. What this does is transcode the movies(covert them to a file the ps3 can play) and stream them at the same time to the ps3.

So there is no need to convert any movie or music files every again. This media server will show on the PS3 as PS3 media server, you navigate through it like you would a computer. Find your movies and play them.
