Why do people play Minecraft if the graphics are 1980's basic?

Not knocking the game...... just wanting to know why it draws players.

    I do agree that the graphics of Minecraft are indeed a bit . . . okay, not even a bit ~ MEGA-retro - but you have to understand something.

    GRAPHICS AREN'T EVERYTHING. A game should never simply be judged by how it looks.

    I have a question to ask you:

    ============================

    Alright, now you're out buying a game. All you have are these TWO choices:

    GAME A.) Has the most beautiful graphics ever seen in a video game. Everything looks crisp and clear. It's the world's best eye-candy. Unfortunately, it controls like garbage. It's game-play is boring, sloppy, and barely even playable.

    GAME B.) Has graphics like that of early N64 games. Barely any special effects, or special lighting. It couldn't look more drop-dead nasty. But yet, it's fun and addicting. It will keep you playing for days, weeks, months even.

    ============================

    Alright, now you have those two choices. Which do you choose? Terrible graphics, butgame-play gameplay, or amazing graphics, but horrific gameplay?

    ============================

    My point is ~ graphics aren't everything. To many graphics-junkies miss out on some amazing titles because they're to stuck up. They can't take anything that isn't HD/photo-realistic. I'm not trying to insult you here, my friend, I'm just trying to make a statement.

    Personally, I find Minecraft boring. I played it for a bit, and it was a yawn to me. None-the-less, it may seem to be a pretty retro-splash of pixels and color, but people still find it fun. It does have some quality to it though ~ The fact you're able to create massive creations, and explore and go on adventures and stuff is really cool. It's like LEGO on steroids.

    I just wanted to bring out a point here. Even if the graphics aren't up-to-par, if the gameplay is top-notch, it's a good game, hands-down. Personally, I like games that make my eyes go "Woah!" and have the game-play that keeps me entertained. BUT, if I had two choices - I'd pick the game with good game-play over graphics, if I can't get one with a balanced mixture.

    If you want to go see something pretty and photo-realistic - Go watch a high-special effects movie, visit an art museum, or just go take a walk outside. (xD)

    Hello there! In my opinion if you are looking at getting a laptop unless you need to be mobile you are better off getting a desktop Pc they are more powerful for the price usually. In addition to that.they are more upgrade so if something does not work its easy to replace. With your current graphics card as has been said, Yeah you can play it on the lowest settings maybe but dont expect to get much fun out of it. Slender should run on most things as its a very basic game.

    i said the same thing, but the game is just so fun and there are endless things to do and explore and the graphics start to grow on you, considering i actually like them now. Plus if the game had amazing 2012 graphics Minecraft would just look akward

    People play it because they can make their own world with everything they want in it. They don;t really pay attention to the 1980's graphics.

    Because not everyone is a graphics whore? I mean some people like a game for what it is instead of wanting the best and shiniest graphics.

    Its a sandbox game and your only limit is your imagination. I didn't want to play it either, but my husband and his friends started to play it. When I started telling my husband what to build, he handed me the other gaming controller and I was hooked.

    Only problem is its such a time sink... I have to keep myself from losing days to the game.

    (I obviously play the xBox version)

    because some of us are intelligent enough to realize that graphics should never be a selling point of a game.
