when will nascar get rid of the chase?

The chase hasn't generated any excitement, they have boring Homestead-Miami instead of Las Vegas or Bristol, and more importanly, the driver at the beginning of the 26-race season lets say, has a 500 point lead and then has to give it all up in the chase. WHAT IS nascar thinking?

I wish they would get rid of it because it was a big reason ticket sales and ratings started to decline, and the sport was doing great before the Chase. Old fans would come back if they did away with it, and it would help bring back some popularity. Nationwide and Camping World Trucks don't have a Chase, and they have points battles that are just as great, if not better! It would be the same for Sprint Cup. Nationwide doesn't need a Chase, their TV ratings went slightly UP this past season, and Sprint Cup went back down, after rising for the first time in years in 2011. Playoffs do not belong in NASCAR, or any form of racing! Playoffs are for the stick and ball sports. I'm not some old traditional fan either, I'm a teen.

    Drivers like it.

    Owners like it.

Many fans find it more exciting than in the past

where drivers could stroke their way to a championship,

Or when, like when Matt Kenseth won,

he took the lead in March, and never lost it..

The only real downside, is that the drivers in the chase, should

be scored from 12-1. That would make it a LOT more exciting.

As it is now, if one gets crashed out, or breaks in a race or two,

it pretty much takles him out of it right off the bat.

There is not enough time to recoup the lost points.

12-1, you have to race each race to win.

If there are only 12 in the "chase" for the title, then the points

    should only include those 12...

It would be very likely that going into the last race,

there could be 5-6 or more that could win.

The chase is garbage. And Nascar of course will not get rid of it. More likely they'll continue to water down the championship. I wouldn't be surprised if they reset the points with 5 to go or 1 to go in the future if ratings keep dropping. They've proved their stupidity knows no bounds.

It is a good format. You must not be a "true" nascar fan if you didn't think the 2011 chase was exciting, as well as this year's chase, with Brad Keselowski battlin' it out in Texas.

No excitement? Did you not watch the 2011 season finale? Stewart wins the race, Edwards takes 2nd and they end the season tied in points with Stewart taking the title based on wins. First time in history thats happened.

I do prefer the old format over the chase, but you cannot say it hasn't created excitement.

NASCAR is smart and won't get ride of it, ever. While the Chase is a ridiculous format, it draws a ton of fans and boosts ratings. NASCAR needs that.

The suits sitting in the leather chairs would have to change first, obviously they are not listening to fan reaction. So we are stuck with it for the mean time.
