My neighbors are weird?
6 years ago, my neighbors dog attacked mine. It was weird because the day before, they took their dog on a walk down the road and stopped at our house. I live at the end of a private road and they live at the top. There's a park and sidewalks, but they decided to take their dog down the awful crummy part of the road. They looked at my backyard and left. He had flesh missing from his neck and needed breathing tubes, which I had to pay for. They have no remorse. Their dog is always outside in the cold and its in the snow all night. They never bring it in. I also heard from one of their children that they hate dogs. My dog is lying here with me as I write this, with his chin in his paws staring up at me like I'm doing something right. What should I do about this? It's so long ago, but I never did anything about it.

Although I am pretty sure the statute of limitations to sue for this in civil court has expired, have you thought about calling Animal control and reporting a vicious dog, or at least report that the dog is not cared for and neglected, being left outside. Does the dog run loose off the leash? Report that too. The important thing is that your dog is loved and healthy, and that you are a good dog parent. Remember, there comes a time we all have to answer for our screw ups. Their time will come, you let it go and enjoy your dog and your life.

I'm very sorry to hear this. But, I think them stopping in front of your house was probably just a coincidence. I often stop when walking my dogs to pick up poop, put them into a sit stay, or tie my shoe. Maybe they were just looking for a new place to walk their dog. I don't think this was premeditated. But, I'm very sorry your dog had to go through this. Legally, they are required to compensate you for the medical bills. I also recommend calling animal control on them for neglect of their own dog. Leaving a dog outside in the snow is cruelty. I wouldn't take the word of a child, though. Also, I doubt your dog knows right from wrong, just what you praise him for and what you scold him for. You can try contacting a lawyer for reimbursement of medical bills. I'm not sure if it's been too long, but it's worth a shot.

It was so long ago that there is nothing that you can do. Make sure that you always supervise your dog when it's outside and hopefully nothing like that happens again. As for the treatment of their dog, the humane society can only get involved if the animal is in danger or being neglected. I believe that as long as shelter, food, and water are provided there's nothing they can do.

You should have pressed charges when the offense occurred. There's little you can do about anything now that its some time after the happening. If you had pressed charges then its likely the neighbors dog would have been taken over by the state and placed in a pound to wait either adoption or a death shot, or it would have been taken over by the state and immediately killed, or the state would have forced your neighbors to have it put to sleep.
