Are there any games like the Sims 3?

There really aren't that many games like the Sims 3 and anything even close can't compare to the Sims 3. I've been playing the Sims since I was 9 (back when it was the first Sims game) and I absolutely love it. I actually have the game open in a separate window right now. It's such a great game. If your son wants the Sims, no other game will really make him happy like the Sims.

I understand your concern, but the game really isn't all the bad. The sex ("woohoo") is completely covered up and from a 10 year old's point of view, you can't even really tell what's going on. It's what separates the Sims from other virtual life games. You can reproduce and continue legacies in the Sims unlike in other games where there isn't any aging and isn't any new life. The most sexual interactions in the game are making out on the couch and bed. The Sims make out for a pretty long period of time and I definitely understand why you wouldn't like that. But other than those two things, the game isn't bad on it's own.

The biggest thing is that your son avoids the internet. On the internet you can mod your game pretty easily and get nude skins, overtly sexy clothes, and adult interactions. Don't let him on the internet, even thesims3.com has some inappropriate sims on the exchange. If he wants to download from the internet, make sure you do it yourself and check it out to make sure it's okay. You can create an account on thesims3.com to access the forums to ask questions which is helpful and spend your 1000 simpoints that come with game on EA store items. The stuff on the internet really is not made for kids. Honestly, I'm 16 and some things I've come across aren't even appropriate for me.

Everything that comes with the game and is EA content is fine though. The only thing by EA that you might want to avoid getting is Late Night. It is by far the best expansion pack, but it simulates drinking, clubbing, partying, and all that which you probably don't want to get into. Other than that he's sure to see things on TV and hear worse things at school then what's in the game. Also in a few years, he could be like every other boy who is dying to own Call of Duty and all those shooting games. My brother has been playing them since he was 13ish and he's honestly sooooo brainwashed by it. He plays it everyday and now he has a real gun.. it's just bad. He's so deep into it that my parents really can't do much to stop him. I mean he's almost an adult now (17). Buying a game like the Sims 3 could really help keeping your son away from getting addicted to those games when he's older. It's so much fun and it'll last him forever. It just doesn't get old.

I recommend that you just watch over everything that he's doing. Go on his game sometimes (but don't save so nothing changes) and maybe ever create your own. Make him ask you when he can play the game and once again, just don't let him on the internet.

I highly recommend the game. It's fantastic.

There is not explicit sex in Sims 3.

No other game really match's up to Sims 3 for a virtual life. I'd get it for him, watch him play it if you have too.
