What does it mean to reinstate a suspended license?

My license was suspended a year ago. The suspension is no longer. I still have my I.D. card, can I just get in my car and drive now without getting in trouble if a cop pulls me over? Or do I have to go to the DMV and do some paperwork...?

Thanks guys.

Additional information: I live in the USA, California.

It means you must rectify the reason why your license was suspended by paying all fees, fines, associated court cost along with the reinstatement fee. Once you have paid required monies to the couty, take proof of payment to DMV for reinstatement.

OK, first, you could have added info to the previous question. That saves you some time and a few points.

Here in California you have to go to DMV and get it reinstated. The normal fee is $55, but if this is for a DUI then there are additional fees.

The trick to doing this is to get to the DMV office either about 10 minutes before they open, or about 10 minutes before closing. You also will need a copy of whatever the court gave you. And it's possible that you will need to make two trips.

You do NOT have a license, and cannot drive without one. You MUST go to the DMV, pay the reinstatement fee, pass the test, have proof of insurance, and get a new license. THEN you can drive.

since your license is no longer suspended, the state in which you live should be sending you a new license, until that happens, i wouldnt drive if i were you
