If one were to notice the context, Heb. 1:8 and 1:9 are being quoted from Ps. 45:6 and 45:7. In Ps. 45:7, speaking to the Israelite King, it says: "Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness above your fellows." - RSV. Just as this makes it clear that the ancient Israelite king was not God but was anointed by God, his God, to a position above his fellows, so does Heb. 1:9, as figuratively applied to Jesus, show that he is not God, but was anointed by his God to a position above his fellows. Context, then, shows that the person addressed in Heb. 1:8 is not God, but one who worships God and was anointed by his God.
Yes, according to the Bible, Jesus HAS a God who is his Father. (2 Cor. 1:3; Eph. 1:3; Col. 1:3; Mark 15:34; John 17:1-3; etc.) Nowhere in Scripture can it be found that the Father has a God. That is because Jesus himself said that the Father is "the only true God". (John 17:1-3) Reasonably then, Jesus cannot *be* God if he and/or the Bible is talking about God as a separate person.
Even in heaven, Jesus refers to *his* God and the NAME of his God. (Rev. 3:12) That is another thing that differentiates God and Jesus Christ...their personal names.

Read Chapter Saint. John 15
Jehovah is the God of Jesus. Then, Jesus is in the Father and the Father is in Jesus. What this means? So there are no Son without Father and no Father without Son. Meaning they are bound together being one. Both in one are the Almighty. God+ Holy Spirit bound them together. Sum of the three equal one. One God in three persons. The Almighty.

Dear friend,
The reason why people say Jesus is God is because they have adopted a pagan teaching that dates back to Babylon and Egypt. So here are a few thing to consider:
Jesus in Praying to HIS FATHER said: "This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ. John 17: 3. So listen to what the son says when he calls his father THE ONLY TRUE GOD!
Here are a few more things to think about, , "
The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him." (John 13:16) Jesus said on numerous occasions that, "the Father… hath sent me." (John 5:37,6:37)
Jesus prays to God. (John 17:1-3)
Jesus has faith in God. (Hebrews 2:17,18, Hebrews 3:2)
Jesus is a servant of God. (Acts 3:13)
Jesus does not know things God knows. (Mark 13:32, Revelation 1:1)
Jesus worships God. (John 4:22)
Jesus has one who is God to him. (Revelation 3:12)
Jesus is in subjection to God. (1 Corinthians 15:28)
Jesus' head is God. (1 Corinthians 11:1)
Jesus has reverent submission, fear, of God. (Hebrews 5:7)
Jesus is given lordship by God. (Acts 2:36)
Jesus is exalted by God.(Acts 5:31)
Jesus is made high priest by God. (Hebrews 5:10)
Jesus is given authority by God. (Philippians 2:9)
Jesus is given kingship by God. (Luke 1:32,33)
Jesus is given judgment by God. (Acts 10:42)
"God raised [Jesus] from the dead". (Acts 2:24, Romans 10:9, 1 Corinthians 15:15)
Jesus is at the right hand of God. (Mark 16:19, Luke 22:69, Acts 2:33, Romans 8:34)
Jesus is the one human mediator between the one God and man. (1 Timothy 2:5)
No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. (1 John 4:12)
God put everything, except Himself, under Jesus. (1 Corinthians 15:24-28)
Jesus did not think being "equal with God" was graspable. (Philippians 2:6)
"Around the ninth hour, Jesus shouted in a loud voice, saying "Eli Eli lama sabachthani?" which is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"" (Matthew 27:46)
I looked, and there before me was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one "like a son of man" with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. Then another angel came out of the temple and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, "Take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe." Rev 14: 14-15 Here is Jesus is taking orders from another angel ! Can we beleive that an angel who orders Christ to harvest the earth is giving orders to God Himself! Or that he would have to tell the omnipotent (all-powerful), omniscient (all-knowing) Most High "God the Son" when and how to do anything?

Christians accept Jesus as God. You will notice that the Jehovah's Witnesses (several of the answers here) do not.
But, Jesus, while being God, was also fully human. Now, think about what that means. As a human being, he would have the exact same powers, and limitations as any other human. He needed to eat, sleep, and go to the bathroom - same as any of us. He needed to be born, and to grow - and, he could be killed as well (and he was). He did miracles, yes, but, he clearly states, several times that any of us can do them - and even greater things than he did, with faith. He had NO special powers, despite being God. His humanity limited him to things only humans can do. So, to interact with the wider God, he needed to pray - same as we do. He would receive instructions from God - same as any other prophet. So, while he was God, his humanity cut him off from all that God is.
As others have said, this passage is a quote from Psalm 45:6-7. The passage is about God's firstborn (i.e., Jesus), who is to be worshipped (vs 6). Being anointed means being a King - kings are anointed. So, Jesus is to be considered a King - but, the King of Joy (vs 9), and set above all his companions. In the footnotes to Psalm 45:6, (on Biblegateway.com), the king is addressed as God's representative.
So, God is the God of Jesus, same as any other human being, but, Jesus is also God - in human form.

Notice verse 8 that you quote says in the King James Version of the Bible that God the Father is calling Jesus Christ "God." That's because the traditional Christian God is one God in three parts -- God the Father, Jesus Christ God's Son, and God's Holy Spirit. In Matthew 28, Jesus Christ mentions all three as the names we need to use to baptize the new believers into the faith. You need to be a Christian, and not a JW, so you can go to heaven forever when you die someday.
One very important thing to have right in your life is to be a Christian, and then God can help you live your life right. God is love, and God is our Creator. Also, you can pray about your life daily. Plus, as a Christian, you can go to heaven forever when you die someday, if you are faithfully following Him. If you don't follow God in your life, you end up in hell, a very bad place of suffering. Praying the prayer below will make you a Christian. Then, live it out with faith and love for God and Jesus Christ, love others, Bible study, prayer, and church. It's about having a relationship with God. God is our Creator, life, love, all-powerful, all-knowing, eternal, divine. It's important for you to try to be kind and caring, good and loving to others generally, and God will help you feel His love for you, and help you love others for Him.
This is how to know God -- the basic Christian message and prayer --- you need to accept God's Son, Jesus Christ, into your life to be a Christian and follow God's ways so you can receive God's guidance in your life and get to heaven after you die. Knowing God can transform your life. As God is love, life is primarily about love and relationships in order to have a good life. Also, you need to know God's Son, Jesus Christ, in your life as your Lord and Savior as Jesus died on the cross as payment for our sins. Having Him with you will give you God's blessing and forgiveness, as you live God's way. There is an important prayer to pray to become a Christian. This prayer should be said with faith in God and a sincere heart:
"Dear God, I know that I am a sinful person and I don't want to be like this anymore. I know that Jesus Christ died on the cross as payment for our sins, and I want to accept Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior so I can receive God's forgiveness, guidance, and go to heaven someday. Thank you, dear God, for your mercy and guidance; in Jesus' name. Amen."
This prayer can take you to a new place in your relationship with God and transform your life. After saying this prayer, you should check out a Christian church. I like the Baptist and Lutheran churches. (Avoid the liberal ELCA Lutherans.) The church can get you baptized and prayed for, and you can pray for yourself daily.
The church can get you into their Bible study group so you can learn more about God, Jesus, and God's will for your life. The Bible is God's instruction book about how to live a God-honoring life so you can go to heaven after you die.
Ways to stay connected to God's path include loving God and Jesus Christ, obeying God's ways, daily Bible reading, daily prayer for yourself and others, getting to church, having your church prayer group and/or pastor pray for you, fasting with prayer for a higher level of prayer, getting with other Christians and doing a Bible study, singing hymns to God, taking communion with the church, helping and loving others, expressing your gratitude to God for His help in your life by telling others of your progress and helping them draw closer to God too, tithing at church, volunteering at church. Continue to turn from sins and seek God's forgiveness in your life as you live your daily life.
