where should i start learning about how to make microchips and using microcontrollers?

I want to learn the basics just to make my patent process much faster on my inventions. I know very little and where should I start?

    For learning to use a micro-controller, try getting an arduino starter kit.

    For learning how to make microchips as the art currently is, you should learn about silicon crystal growth, lithography, how doping is done and semiconductor physics. This technology is pretty well developed, so, if you're wanting to get useful patents, you'll have to come up with something better.

    As for the patent process, I'd keep good lab notes and call a patent lawyer when you actually have something worthwhile.
