Minnesota Evictions: What happens?
I recently lost my job, and have been waiting to find out if I even qualify for unemployment. My rent, is due on the 1st, like everyone elses'. We have until the 5th, by 5pm, to drop them a check. Now, I may not even have the money, if I do qualify for UI, until the 6th or 7th. I have always paid my rent on time, or within the grace period. I have run into some hard times though, and called to let them know I would need to pay a little later than the grace period (on the 9th), and would gladly pay the 8% late fee. My Landlord then demanded that I give them about $400 now, and that wouldn't be an issue. Problem was, I didn't have anything until the 9th. I was told that I would have eviction proceedings started on me by the 6th. Now, I have absolutely nothing. I may potentially have some money coming in later this month, if I do not get UI. How do evictions work? Will I need to leave the property right away? I have never been evicted. Any advice would be appreciated.
I am so confused by some of these answers. I am not stealing from my landlord, they are just extremely strict. I have never paid my rent late, passed the grace period, in my life. I have no experience with eviction. I should take my notice of termination to them, yes or no?

he eviction takes about 3 weeks, then you leave, UI is garnishable, so they can get what you owe rom that.
I suggest you take your documents showing you were not fired and did not quit to the landlord to increase their confidence that you will receive unemployment.

If landlord files for an eviction, you will be served a summons to appear in court. You go to court, state your case, landlord tells his side and Judge tells you when you have to vacate.
If you are not out of the property by the date the Judge said, then landlord calls the Sheriff and they come and physically remove you from the property. All of your belongings will be thrown away and landlord can change the locks at that time.
That process can take as little as 30 days. But, once the eviction is started, landlord does not have to accept any full or partial payments from you.

Borrow from relatives and stop stealing from landlord.
No you don't have to move right away. Legal eviction can take up to 3 months but the penalties will destroy you and your credit
