my 1986 fiero 2,8 shifter is stuck in 2nd, how can I free it

You're shift linkage is probably jammed up. Wouldn't be surprised to see it on a 25+ year old tranny.
That wasn't exactly the best tranny that they could have come up with for that car and explains why they went to the Getrag 5 speeds (and Izusu 5 speeds) later on.
I owned an '84 Fiero with a 4 cylinder and the 4 speed and have had other cars with smoother shifting trannys. it felt vague and notchy even though the shifter was right there, in the perfect position.
Also check your clutch cylinder master/slave to see if you're getting enough pressure. I had an issue with that on that car also.

Can't move it even with the engine off.
Don't know this particular linkage, but when I was younger had a car with three on the tree and sometimes got stuck in 2nd, and I had to manually move the linkage at the transmission. Maybe you can try that.

try jumping the clutch by hitting the starter with the clutch out ! the jar might loosen it enough so you can change gears !
