Alternator Overcharging?

So I went to get it tested and it needs a new one, or a new voltage regulator. Problem is my mechanics can't find parts for my car right now and I am going to ~need~ to travel around 40 miles with this.

Battery is new as of yesterday as my other one exploded. Everytime I put my foot on the throttle the voltage needle goes up, and the battery light on the dashboard, too. It goes down when I turn on my ac and lights.

My question is; How long can I try to level it out before it shares the same fate my previous battery did?

Do not even start the engine with the car in this condition. You are just asking for trouble.

Fried computer. Fried stereo. Fried instrument cluster. Fried wiring harness. Electrical fire.

Is this worth the risk? I would disconnect the battery and not even start the engine until the alternator is replaced.

The cost of a rental car would be far less than these repairs.

Personally, I would replace the mechanic. Find one that has a better parts source.

don,t even think about driving it that way ! if it,s overcharging then it can cause the battery to explode and can mess up the charging system ! try auto zone or advance ! if they don,t have the alternator on stock they probably can have it for you in a day or so !
