Can I take a used CPU from one motherboard and install it into a newer motherboard?
I'm new to the computer building, okay so I need help. I didn't just think I'll ask someone who knows, and leach off their knowledge no i looked through forums on the internet because I wanted to increase my knowledge on computers and how they work.
Okay so onto the details:
The CPU has thermal paste on the top that is torn and not very good looking, would it be okay to simply scrape that off and clean it?
Also the CPU is installed into an older motherboard, and I want to upgrade it, I'm pretty sure it would be safe, but better safe than sorry right?
CPU is a Intel Pentium E5800
It is installed in a Intel G41 MicroATX Link: http://www.amazon.com/ECS-Elitegroup-MicroATX-Moth...
I want to install it into this motherboard: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005PX3UYA/ref=oh...
My email is mark.bale@ymail.com

1. Yes, you can clean it off, though you should not simply scrape it, but clean it carefully then put some more paste on it. But the outer case of your CPU is not actually part of it, so don't worry about damaging anything.
2. That, however, will not work. The E5800 is a Socket LGA 775. The H61 is LGA 1155. They are not compatible, and they are so different, you shouldn't even think about it. I suppose you might put one in the other, but all you would end up with is a fried CPU and motherboard since they don't share the same contacts or compatible electrics.
I think you don't know how much you don't know.

The new motherboard uses a different socket. So you will not be able to use your old LGA775 CPU onto a socket 1156 motherboard. You will have to upgrade the CPU as well.
Good luck.

warning, be careful and dont enhance a static cost touch the chasis of the pc earlier any factors. next, the documents should not be lost simply by fact that your no longer messing with the confusing force. Ram is undemanding, open the clips on the sides eject the previous sticks and in flow the hot. The CPU and MoBo are somewhat trickier, and that i reccomend Google a Tech help web site, and YouTube, emphasis on YouTube as you will see the way it rather is complete.

Your socket is different, so it won't work. If you got a motherboard with the same socket, then you could clean off the thermal paste with isopropyl alcohol, and add some new thermal paste.
