Sulphur and oxygen???????????
we studied in chemistry class that oxygen reacts with sulphur to form sulphur dioxide, but my question is how do they preserve the sulphur in the labs? i mean oxygen is present everywhere so they have to keep it in a place without oxygen to prevent it from changing its state. i am just curious

It might be simpler if you say: Sulphur burns in an oxygen containing atmosphere to produce SO2. The accent is on the word "burn". This reaction only takes place at high temperature. It burns with a blue flame and produces SO2 which has a sharp irritating smell
This reaction does not occur at room temperature. Where sulphur is used industrially , say in the production of sulphuric acid , the bulk sulphur is stored in the open air , usually on a concrete slab with a roof to protect from rain. No reaction occurs until it is fed to the sulphur burning furnace.

Sulphur only reacts with oxygen at much higher temperatures than room temperature, so no special precautions are necessary.
