Need help with google chrome issue?

So, I was downloading something off of a website and about half way through I realized it wasn't actually what I was looking for, it was a product for an ad that I had clicked accidentally. I managed to close the installation box about half way through via task manager. However, it seems the program was still on my laptop. I went through to add/remove programs and got rid of the program. It also downloaded an extra for google chrome, which i cannot get rid of.

So, even though I have taken it out of my computer through add/remove progs, I still have the extension for chrome. I went in and got rid of it from my extension list -- deleted it, not just disabled it -- and it still pops up in chrome.

Every time I open Chrome, even though GOOGLE is set to my home page, a different web page pops up. It looks like it is trying to be a lot LIKE google, but is far from what Google even looks like. This happens when I open a new window/new tab. What's more odd about the website is it DOESN'T have a URL address. The URL bar is blank. The tab with this website open just says, "Internet Search" on the tab. Has a geen, red, blue, and yellow swirl in front of the word Internet. The site is a search site, and has the colored symbol in front of the bar you type in for searching.

At the top of the website is a blue bar going across linking me to other sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

Ran AVG virus scan -- NO THREAT FOUND.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled chrome.

Deleted every speck of history, cookies, cache, etc.

Rebooted computer after reinstallation of chrome and uninstallation of the unwanted program.

How can I get chrome set back to google when I open new tabs or first open the browser?

Well I guess you found an infection? Get into safe mode ans download Malware Bytes, install ,let it update and scan, I say safe mode as it is a selective startup and most infections will still be dormant at this stage. You canalso try a system restore from prior to downloadiing "something". Anther reason why Chrome isn't my favourite browser, I have no problems with IE9 or FF, laugh if you like but I am not the one trying to dig infections out of his/ her PC? I recommend you purchase Malware Bytes, a once of payment of $24.95, run in protectin mode next to AVG, can only assist, you won't regret it.Windows 7 has a long memory, I have uninstalled programs and reinstalled a month later and 7 has remembered the key? So try system restore it is a very powerful toll in 7. Worse case scenario is a re format of the drive?

Check your add/remove programs list again for any programs that might have also installed with the installation or that you don't recognize. You can sort the list by "date installed" to help you out. Normally adware installers install multiple programs to confuse users and be a major pain in the you know what.

    Hi

I understand your problem. The internt science is moving forward. It is becoming beyond our reach. Before we fully understand the first, the second comes up. To make matters worse, the second is always related to the first. I had the same problem. I used internt reputation.com. They have answered many of my unlimited internet questions. Give it a try.

its not a virus. go into tools / settings and kill the process in chrome. in the startup tab on msconfig uncheck anything that says Google.
