Can't get my WoW account to a battlenet account?

I have a World of Warcraft account I've been playing on since the game came out but I quit before the new battlenet stuff came out and I was wondering if I need to activate my account to make it a battlenet account or how can I do that? I've tried a couple times and every time I try to merge it says my email is unverified, how can I make my account a battlenet account?

    I think you need to make battle.net account first

    then link your WoW account to it
