HELP!!! Nook Color needs to be deactivated?

Okay so my fiancé purchased me a nook color from a flea market....we get it home and it wont let me register cause its still registered to someone else...but the problem I have is the person who owns the flea market also owns a auction house and gets all of his items from unpaid storage units!!! I called the 1800 number and they directed me to email management,

IS THERE ANYWAY TO BYPASS THIS CRAP, IM SO FRUSTRATED!!! ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT!!!

    try removing the battery to reset it
