Is it still appropriate to send a thank you note after attending a party?

I brought flowers to the hostess. Do I need to send a post-party gift - or is a note enough? And is a note important in the first place?

Thanks

You did good by bringing a gift, nothing more is necessary... People throw parties to show their own gratitude, don't turn it into a competition - (follow me here) - you were invited, then brought a gift, then want to send a 'thank you'.... It can sometimes become competitive which is very appalling... Just leave it be.. You attended with a gift, your deed is done..

If you are determined to show gratitude regarding the party, a 'thank you' note is fine (gratitude is never an ugly thing btw, don't ever think it is, just be sure to walk a fine line between gratitude and out-shining) - just keep it simple, don't try to 'out-do' the hostess... Just write something like "The party was great, thanks for having me. Hope to do it again next year!".... Simple is best in situations like yours.

A post party gift seems excessive, but gratitude is always appreciated.
