I work at a hotel. A guest took a picture of me without asking permission. Have my rights been violated?

The first photograph was from across the room (I was in the background, with his children in the foreground). I was a little concerned, but not too worried. Then he walked up to me, and took a close up photo without asking my permission. I am afraid he will post my picture on his facebook page or his website or something. Do I have any legal recourse? He should have asked before he took my picture for his personal use. I would settle for him deleting the picture from his camera, but he has probably already shared it.

The hotel may have some policy about photos taken on its grounds, in particular of its employees. But very often lobbies are indeed viewed as public places and the picture is otherwise permitted. Yes, it's rude. If you come across it posted someplace online, you can ask for it to be taken down. But since presumably neither of you know the other's name, it's unlikely you'll find it or that if they post it your name would be anywhere around it. Showing up in photographs is something that's going to happen at times when you work for a hotel, and in particular if you're at times in the lobby area where people are snapping photos as they come and go, etc. If this is a big problem, the hotel itself needs to post a policy.

You can take a picture of whoever you want as long as they're in a public location. A hotel lobby is actually defined as a public location according to several laws regarding various forms of privacy.

All you can really do is tell your boss about it, but even then he/she will probably just tell you to suck it up.

Yes! Describe him to your manager who will have records. This is illegal!
