Double major in neuroscience and psych?

If I plan on someday earning a doctorate in neuropsychology, is it a good idea to double major in neuroscience and psych? I'm a freshman who is already working on a major in psych.

Update:

So drop neuroscience and do biology instead? I figured that if I wanted to focus on neuroscience, i should at least major in it...

If you want to do neuropsych, you need a VERY strong psych background- so whatever you do, do not drop that. Courses in neuroscience (maybe a minor, not necessarily a double major) will be helpful as well as courses in biopsychology, physiological psych, and psychophysiology.

A minor/major in biology would be nearly useless. Courses such as mammology, virology, and the such will be nearly useless.

Other courses that may help are:

Anatomy, physiology, molecular/cellular biology, genetics, and biochemistry

    1) Neuroscience is not a major 2) Having a double major is not going to make you any more eligible for med school than a single major. 3) A Double major takes roughly 1-1/2 as long to accomplish as a single major (6 years compared to 4 years).

Hey, so this is from my perspective and from what I have learnt from students at University.

If you are going to do Psychology - you will find it almost useless unless you do post graduate study to get your clinical psychology diploma, masters etc. Those who do not take psychology to the post-grad level will usually do it because it a) is simply an interesting subject to them b) its a good minor/major to go with their business degree like marketing or media studies.

Neuroscience is a good degree to have - you can also go to become a doctor of medicine. Having said this - a had a friend who didn't get admitted into medicine first time around so had to complete a degree first before trying to get admitted again. He took neuroscience and this year got admitted to medicine. He said he learnt almost all the same stuff...

If I were you I would take medicine! - Or Neuroscience with a minor in biology. But just do whatever interests you. If you end up doing something you don't like you won't have the motivation to be good at it. Good luck :)

Minor in psychology while majoring in neuroscience. Or just major in neuroscience while taking some psychology classes.

No. If this is your path, you should major in biology. A real science-based education is going to be far more powerful for these purposes.

    Sure why not?
