Did any African Americans see Django Unchained?
...and actually regard it as disrespectful to your ancestors? Why or why not?
Yes, I'm asking in light of Spike Lee slamming Tarantino's new film which stars Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Kerry Washington & Samuel L. Jackson. Ironically, Lee has called for a 'boycott' of this film, has not seen it, yet has passed judgment.

If you are going to see a Tarantino film for social commentary instead of stylized fictional violence...then THAT is the problem.
Tarantino is not director known for making political statements in his films, critics do not expect social or political cometary from a Tarantino film...and there is something...conflicting in interests when one director suggests that another director is has created "offensive" cinema.

I saw it, was excited to see it but was truly offended. What bothered me most was that it made light of an American tragedy. Not disrespectful to my ancestors but disrespectful to me. Do you think Hollywood would produce a movie about Jews that poked fun at Concentration Camps or a movie that made light of people who had to jump from the Twin Towers....hell no. Why, because its not funny.

I doubt most people even know what Spike Lee is famous for anymore, he just wants the attention.

Several of my friends have seen it, and didn't like it at all. Too much like the exploitation films of the 70s.

I don't plan on seeing it. Not into Hollywood that much, I'm trying to stay pure.
