With the country in economic distress, high unemployment and that we are facing a myriad of tax increases due to Obamacare, which will be rolled out in full by 2013, we are also receiving a daily dose of the "fiscal cliff". A term coined five decades ago but which Ben Bernanke used to full effect.

As phrases go it is meaningless and is just DC jargon but, Obama wants to fall off the cliff, hopes the results will be dire and some voters will say he was right all along.

As things stand, he had no right giving such raises when so many of us can't even find jobs. Typical Obama, spending money that we don't have.

No government workers have had a COLA raise in 3 years. You can still get step and promotion increases, but no cost of living. This includes congress.

Congressional/Presidential raises are now automatic (unless congress votes against it on a given year -- fat chance). I don't have an opinion, just a warped sense of humor.

The pay raise is for the next congress, not this one.
