How to prevent getting dizzy in long car rides?

3 days ago, my family and I went on a 2 hour ride to visit Big Bear in CA. I got really dizzy during all the turns up the mountain and threw up.. We're planning to go again since it was still really fun, but how do I prevent getting car sick this time ?

I have an inner ear disorder, so I always get car sick on trips. The best motion sickness medicine you can buy is called Bonine. If you don't see it in the store, ask the pharmacist for it. It may be behind the counter. Take it about an hour before you leave. It will make you drowsy but it's better than the alternative!

The other thing that makes you nauseated is your eyes having to adjust to all the twists and turns and changes of the horizon on the way up the mountain. Try to limit looking out the window as much as possible, and keep your head facing forward. Don't read in the car. Lastly, make sure that the car's ventilation is set to "recirculate" instead of "fresh air". It's the settting with the little arrows on it. You want the arrow that's in a circle. This keeps the air conditioning from sucking in exhaust from other cars, trucks, etc. that might make you nauseated into the passenger cabin. Have a great trip!

Ugh, I know how that feels! I usually just sleep during those kinds of rides but if I can't, I chew a gum or drink Meclizine.

There are medicines that they sell to prevent motion sickness. Dramamine is one I can think of. Just take deep breaths, and listen to some music. :) good luck!

Look outside and keep yourself entertained. Dont use phones, ipod or other gadgets. Sleep. Dont eat too much before you go in.
