If you wait until you turn 18 you will NOT need any Driver Ed., or Driver Training classes. You will need an Adult Instruction Permit. Once you have the Adult Permit any California licensed driver 18 or older can accompany you when practicing driving. To get the permit you will need your birth certificate, a Social Security number, and the $31 fee. You will take the written, and eye tests at that time. Get a copy of the California Driver Handbook to study at any DMV office. (it is down-loadable, but it's 80 pages long. You'll need lots of paper, and ink)
