Why don't we hear the saxophone in movies and tv shows nearly as much as we used to?

In the 80's and early 90's we heard saxophone in the background in a lot of entertainment media. The relatively recent rise of feminist power with the likes of Hilary Clinton, Oprah, and people who think ladies like that are heroes (sorry "heroines") seems to coincide with the decline of the saxophone. What happened and how can professional saxophone players make a comeback?
