Do many Marines get deployed in their first 4 years?

My boyfriend is thinking about enlisting and I would like to know how soon it's possible for him to be sent to war.

Everyone SHOULD be deployed sometime their first enlistment. That's how the Pentagon sees it (or so from what I've read).

However, due to many circumstances, it's possible one doesn't ever deploy.

Being deployed does NOT equal being sent to war. One could be deployed to Kuwait, Guantanamo Bay, Turkey, etc...

Being sent overseas does not automatically mean they're going to war and fight.

All marines end up "deployed" and most usually within the first six months after basic. Being "deployed" simply means that they are stationed on foreign soil.

Not all of them will end up in war zones. Some of them will get lucky enough to just be deployed to a foreign location, but not always a war zone.

I've been in for 4 years and have not deployed yet. I do have orders for a deployment in a few months though but I did reenlist so technically i never deployed during my initial 4 years.

But if you sign up for any branch of the service expect to be deployed. After all its the whole reason you join.

Depending on their job. My husband has gone to Afghanistan and has done a 2 yr tour in Japan. Hasn't been home a lot....so In the 4 years hes been in hes been gone for about 2 1/2 of them, its not a relationship for the faint of heart!

To be a Marine is to be Deployed...

For the last ten years, most have; however, all that is rapidly changing, and unless we get into another major war, most will not deploy.

It depends on their job and the needs of the Marine Corps.
